What it measures

Counts

How far the pointer reports moving while the cursor is locked.

DPI

Those counts divided by the distance you say you moved, in inches.

Questions

How do I run it?

Press start, move the mouse a ruler length, then click. Pick 2.54 cm for one inch or a longer marked distance.

Why would the number be off?

Windows pointer acceleration and a browser that ignores raw movement both change the count. Chrome or Edge on a desktop give the steadiest result.
